Staying Safe When Using Wireless 3rd October, 11
Whether you’re using clear wireless or the local Starbucks connection you should be careful about hotspot safety. There’s nothing wrong with being on the web in public but it can leave you vulnerable so take our tips for staying safe online:
1. Connect Securely – Some internet providers offer truly secure connections for mobile internet and they’re worth paying a premium for. Wireless cards and 4G offer the best protection so look into what’s available in your area.
2. Don’t Steal Internet – If you’re not a Starbucks customer, don’t use their Wi-Fi. Accessing unknown and unverified wireless connections is one of the best ways to get yourself in hot water so if you don’t know the connection and have permission to use the wireless network, don’t.
3. Don’t Send Sensitive Info – Whether you’re completing a spreadsheet for work, sending an email to a loved one or worst of all, doing online banking, your information is somewhat vulnerable. If you’re in a public place and have any doubt as to the security of the wireless network save the sensitive stuff for when you get home.
